Good-looking, great to drive, and a standout in the compact SUV segment, the Mazda CX-5 is a strong choice. Not only does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 deliver on the brand’s reputation for athletic handling, but it also offers a near-luxury experience for mainstream money. This particular blend of nimble road manners and interior refinement makes the CX-5 one of our favourite small SUVs.

The CX-5 has long been known as the “funnest” compact SUV to drive outside the luxury brands. And with reason. Those exterior good looks (which haven’t changed much in years, because why mess with a good thing) are matched by seductive road handling.

CX-5 SPORT DESIGN – The CX-5 Sport Design features sleek finishes on the exterior to support an athletic look, including a gloss-black front grille, black signature wing, door mirrors, lower bumper, wheel arches, and rocker moulding. Completing the theme are black metallic finish 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a grille design matrix accent in Classic Red, and larger exhaust outlets. The interior features black leather seats with red accents and stitching on the instrument panel, door trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and shifter, creating a sporty atmosphere throughout the cabin. For 2023, Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) is added to the CX-5, which enables drivers to select the most appropriate drive mode with a simple switch, offering greater control over the driving experience in a wide variety of conditions. The CX-5’s Mi-Drive features Normal, Off-Road, and Sport Modes.

Where the CX-5 really stands out in this segment is in its steering and handling. It’s sharp and responsive, smooth and well-balanced, but not so intense that it’s a handful. It’s just really pleasant to drive.. Its exterior is elegantly sporty with trim-specific gloss-black accents. Its interior mirrors that sportiness with red accents and stitching.
