THE ONLY OPEN-AIR PICKUP IN THE INDUSTRY & MOST OFF-ROAD-CAPABLE MID-SIZE PICKUP EVER!

There’s hardly another truck on the market that looks as cool, fun, and approachable as the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Part of that uniqueness is on its top; the Gladiator is the only convertible truck you can get today.

The long-awaited, all-new Jeep Gladiator lives up to its midsize-truck promise with its tough, lightweight construction, best-in-class 7,650 pounds of towing power, and excellent 1,600-pound payload capacity. It doesn’t disappoint as an off-roader either, incorporating the Wrangler’s legendary pedigree. With a low starting price, it’s the highest entry-level midsize truck available, but it offers singular Jeep styling and convertible capability. On the road, the Gladiator feels surprisingly untruck-like, offering a solid daily driving experience. The Gladiator boasts dual-purpose credentials; it’s a fun off-road vehicle that can do a lot of work-truck heavy lifting. Best of both worlds? It just might be.

An all-new model for 2020, the Gladiator may resemble a Wrangler Unlimited with a bed, but it rides on a unique frame with a longer wheelbase. It shares one of the Wrangler’s powerplants, the 3.6-litre V6 with start-stop technology, making 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. Like the Wrangler, the Gladiator comes apart. You can remove the doors, fold down the windshield, and remove the roof. It tows up to 7,650 pounds and hauls up to 1,600 pounds, but it’s more about lifestyle than a commercial workhorse.

Driving the Jeep Gladiator:
There’s a 5-link coil suspension system at both front and back, and both have different control-arm setups, with dampers working hard for a smoother ride on pavement. No, it’s never going to feel like a Bentley, but the on-road driving experience of Jeeps keeps getting better and better. It’s easy going on the highway without a ton of vibration. The Sport comes standard with 32-inch Bridgestone tires. There is a bit of road noise inside the cabin, but even that gets better with every Jeep generation. On the Sport models, Jeep’s Command-Trac 4×4 system comes standard and features a 2-speed transfer case and heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles.

Interior Comfort:
The interior looks and feels familiar to the latest Jeep Wrangler JK generation, with a similar center stack and console. The circle gauges and air vents evoke Jeeps of the past, which is a nice historical touch. It’s rugged inside and has some comfortable leather-wrapped surfaces, but doesn’t feel like it’s going to be a problem when it gets dirty. There are some great storage options in the rear, both under and behind the seats. It has three seat configurations: regular for passengers, stadium seating when the seat cushions are up, and the backs also go flat.

The Gladiator also has a true 4×4 system, meaning it can’t be driven in four-wheel-drive mode on hard or dry roads, which can damage the driveline if it binds up. There’s a lever for four-wheel drive and you have to pull hard on it because it’s mechanical; there’s no electronic dial here. And it’s a bit of work to get the roof and doors off — don’t think it’s a conventional convertible, where you simply push a button to raise or lower the top if the weather suddenly changes. Once the roof’s off, you’re committed. All of this is exactly what Jeep fans mean when they stick on a decal that says, “It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand.”

And if you can accept all that, you likely will be very happy with it.

FEATURES:

NO TOY LEFT BEHIND – Those who aspire to truly do more now have the means to make it happen with Best-in Class 4×4 towing of 7,650 lb. Bring along your family camper, loaded-up trailer or boat. This versatile truck bed is built to carry everything to every place you dream of reaching, thanks to its Best-in-Class 4×4 payload of 1,600 lb. The spray-in bedliner, tonneau cover and 115-volt power outlet all add more function to your fun. Lower the gate and take advantage of a 81.3 x 44.8-inch load floor (with tailgate down) that can accommodate a whole lot of ATV fun. Well-positioned tie-downs help secure your load. LED bed lighting illuminates nighttime on- and off-loading.

EASY-TO-REMOVE FREEDOM TOP 3-PIECE MODULAR HARDTOP – Lightweight and easy to take off, you can remove just the two front panels or all three sections. The rear glass incorporates a defroster and manual sliding window.

Every MotorTrend judge gave the Gladiator high marks for its unique design. With a wide body and an upright design, this Jeep’s proportions make it handsome from every angle. “Nothing else is like the Gladiator, and in a crowded market where brand allegiances ain’t what they used to be, I think standing out is a big plus,” senior features editor J. Lieberman said. Having a Jeep means you’re getting excellent off-road capabilities, and the Gladiator is no exception. Despite its long wheelbase, the Jeep was the only truck that made it through most of our off-road course in two-wheel drive, showing impressive articulation and traction. Talk about performance of intended function—the Gladiator hits the mark.

2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon 4×4 – Uncompromising off-roader with attitude, creature comforts and classic styling to spare – The new Gladiator might be a pickup truck, but above all else, it’s a Jeep!
