The Palisade wowed us when it was introduced by Hyundai in 2020 as a serious competitor to the top players in the midsize SUV segment like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. This minivan alternative has three roomy rows of seats, a well-crafted interior, and a nice list of standard and available features, making it a fantastic value. Even the more expensive upper trims of the Palisade are good values because they’re competitive with pricier luxury SUVs.

CAR & DRIVER OVERVIEW: Hyundai’s Palisade SUV aims for a class-above experience and nails it, especially on upper trims where its cabin could be confused for one of the Genesis brand’s luxury vehicles. It’s not a Genesis, despite the look and feel, and it instead shares its platform with the also-excellent Kia Telluride. A smooth-running 3.8-liter V-6 is standard and is mated to an eight-speed automatic; front-wheel drive is the base setup, but all-wheel drive is also available. A generous amount of equipment is standard, including a ton of high-tech driver assists and modern infotainment connectivity features. Overall, the Palisade is a well-rounded SUV with a premium vibe, which is why we gave it an Editors’ Choice award.

When the Palisade first landed in 2020 it showed Hyundai was serious about competing with the very best in the segment. It’s been a popular choice ever since, and the updates for 2022 will surely help it continue to be even as new and refreshed competition comes on to the scene. The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is a large, practical, and very well-equipped machine that should give families just what they need in a three-row hauler.
