What’s new for the 2021 Buick Envision?  All of it, starting with its sleek new body. Toned and sculpted, the Envision’s been doing Peloton during the Great Pause, and it shows. The interior’s lidded gauges and sweeping curves complement its skin, especially when it’s paired with light beige leather upholstery.

Apart from its turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, everything about the 2021 Buick Envision is new.  The Envision feels every bit as refined as its larger sibling, the Enclave. It impresses us in multiple ways, primarily in the solidity of its chassis, its abundant luxury features, and in the overall refinement of its turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder powertrain.

Thanks in part to Active Noise Cancellation and other efforts, the 2021 Envision is as quiet inside as, well, a Buick, and the 9-speaker Bose audio system sounds great. What’s more, the heated and leather-covered seats are supportive and all-day comfortable, while the large instrument panel — with analog gauges flanking a digital information screen — is a model of clarity. There’s also plenty of storage space in the Envision’s center console.

The Envision Avenir’s Throne:

For starters, the perforated leather-appointed seats in the Avenir provide all the comfort that is needed, and they feel upscale, especially in Whisper Beige. They are heated and ventilated and have a lower back massage function, which is very soothing. You can activate the massage feature using the controls on the side of the seat. To that end, the attention to detail on the seats (e.g., pattern and stitching) is quite impressive, and this extends to the rear seat.

The large 10.2-inch touchscreen on top of the Envision’s center stack is easy to see and use in varying light conditions. Further helping to reduce driver distraction are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the large head-up display.  The ergonomic center console is sleek and looks gorgeous under the sunlight.

The 2021 Buick Envision has a lower and wider look than the 2021 Envision, because it is. There’s generous use of chrome heightens the sense of luxury, while the wider track gives the new Envision a settled stance. It’s a bit more carlike than the previous Envision, and this appears to be intentional.

In luxurious Avenir form, the Envision is distinguished by a mesh grille, tinted chrome trim, clear taillight lenses, and unique 20-inch wheels with a Pearl Nickel finish.

The Envision’s upped its performance game. By pushing a button on the Envision’s center console, the driver can toggle between Tour, AWD, Sport and Off-Road modes, the Sport offering snappier shifts and throttle response. But it’s not really needed, as the Envision’s flat torque curve is well complemented by the responsive 9-speed automatic, which adjusts its shifting to how this handsome 5-seat crossover SUV is being driven.

FEATURE FAVOURITES: Among our favorite features on the Buick Envision Avenir is the panoramic moonroof and active noise cancellation. The neat tachometer gauge in the head-up display is worth mentioning, too. However, the Bose nine-speaker audio system and 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment screen take the highest honors. We sampled various music genres on the Bose system as loud as we could tolerate, and Chris Stapleton sounded pretty damn good on the highway.

The 2021 Buick Envision pulls up to luxury rivals with a suave new shape and energetic performance. One thing for sure is that this Buick has stepped up to the plate and has broken the brand’s bland stereotype.
