“Ram Heavy Duty is MotorTrend’s 2020 Truck of the Year because it delivers unmatched performance, capability and style to the ultracompetitive truck segment.” — MotorTrend Magazine
We liked the 2020 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty enough to name it (along with the rest of the Heavy Duty lineup) our MotorTrend Truck of the Year. “Riding on a new high-strength steel platform, the new Ram HD looks clean, purposeful, and modern while featuring a host of functional improvements,” we said about the truck.
Things get better when you move indoors, particularly in models with the 12” Uconnect infotainment systems. The 12” screen is oriented vertically, offering either a split-screen or massive single display mode, and everyone who uses it loves it. The top-spec Limited trim receives a few impressive touches that wouldn’t look out of place in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class: “thick baseball-glove-soft leather, rich contrasting wood trim, and finely textured metal bits.”
Heavy-duty pickup trucks like the 2020 Ram 2500 have reached an awe-inspiring point in their evolution. They’re able to move great weights, either in their beds and/or on trailers, and create great power. The Cummins diesel generates a mighty 850 lb-ft of torque.
Yet while the 2020 Ram heavy-duty trucks are the most capable the company has ever produced that don’t require a commercial driver’s license, they can also be truly luxurious and civilized.
TRUCK BED INNOVATION – The RamBox system, with integrated bedside storage bins, is lockable, drainable, illuminated and comes with a 115-volt power outlet — yet the bed is still large enough to carry 4×8-foot sheets of plywood. The power tailgate is dampened and can be released with the key fob, while a retractable bed step makes it easier to load/unload cargo.
A self-leveling rear air suspension provides a smooth and civilized ride, while also making it easier to connect/disconnect a trailer. Speaking of which, a 360-degree camera system, cargo-view camera, blind-spot monitoring and forward-collision mitigation.
Luxury levels are heightened by full leather interiors, accents of real metal and open-pore wood, plus a 17-speaker/750-watt Harman Kardon audio system. The perfectly fine Uconnect infotainment system has an high-resolution 12” touch screen.
The Verdict: LIMITED – Top-of-the-line in every sense, with impressive powertrain, leather-trimmed interior and a stunning exterior aesthetic.
A heavy-duty truck with a luxury car personality. BIG POSH TRUCK.
