A HATCHBACK SEDAN WITH CROSSOVER CAPABILITY
The all-new 2019 Volkswagen Arteon sporting a sleek gran turismo design, upscale interior, innovative technology, and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Balancing efficient, yet powerful performance, the Arteon combines styling and technology in a manner rarely seen outside of high-end luxury sedans. As with models ranging from the Golf to the Atlas SUV, the 2019 Arteon is built on Volkswagen’s
award-winning MQB platform, which allows for its distinct, dynamic proportions and spacious interior.
First impression Review (2019): The new Arteon is a solidly built automobile, quiet on the highway and powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes the car quick and able to sustain highway speeds with ease. The power (268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque) gets sent to the wheels via an 8-speed Aisin 8-speed automatic transmission.
It may look like a conventional sedan, but the Arteon is actually a hatchback, with a massive amount of cargo space that can be lengthened even more by folding the seats or by opening the central pass-through. But even with so much of the Arteon’s footprint dedicated to luggage and groceries, there’s a very generous amount of legroom and headroom, despite the sloping roofline, for rear-seat passengers.
Three years ago, Volkswagen presented the exciting Arteon concept car at the Geneva International Motor Show. The statement at the time was clear: this Gran Turismo ushered in a new era of Volkswagen design. The concept car that garnered worldwide
attention entered production nearly unchanged, combining the design elements of a traditional sports car with the elegance of a fastback.
From the front, Arteon has an aggressive stance—low and wide—that immediately sets it apart from the sedan segment. Borrowing a design feature from classic sports cars, the contoured hoodlines on the Arteon extend directly into its grille. The grille, in turn,
emphasizes the width of the Arteon in chrome crossbars framed by LED lighting.
The side profile of the all-new Arteon is elegantly coupe-like, with a fast sloping rear roofline. A bold character line flows from the grille and runs uninterrupted through the side panels and into the rear of the car. The tail end of the Arteon again borrows from classic sports car styling with its high, broad shoulders, accented by LED taillights.
Favorite Arteon features:
Driving Mode Selection – In addition to Comfort, Normal and Sport modes, the Arteon has a Comfort+ and Sport+ driving modes available from the individual settings submenu. There are noticeable differences in steering feel and chassis control among the various settings.
4Motion all-wheel drive – The Arteon’s 4Motion system acts before wheel slip occurs, eliminating traction losses and greatly aiding vehicle stability. Note: The rear wheels are decoupled from the driveline in dry conditions to save fuel. Within a fraction of a second, though, the electrohydraulic center differential can re-engage the rear wheels.
The sleek lines of the Arteon seduce you to linger behind the wheel. From crosstown trips to long, luxurious drives, the spacious fastback trunk lets you pack more style into every journey.
