KING OF THE HILL:  Comfortable and luxurious, the Ram 1500 Limited is the pickup for luxury car buyers. The Ram 1500 Limited is a delight in almost every way imaginable. Credit the cushy air-suspension system, impressive infotainment setup, and glut of modern safety and convenience features; all of which came together to form a truck that is as comfortable as it is capable.

A well-executed redesign may be interesting headlines, though the big story here is the all-new interior.  This Limited trim comes with a new, class-leading 12-inch display. (Only Tesla can lay claim to offering a larger touchscreen in a production vehicle.)

My assessment for infotainment systems is the non-scientific “could my mother figure it out with no instructions test,” which the Ram passes with flying colors. The touchscreen is easy to understand and Ram has included plenty of physical buttons around the display for easy access to controls such as fan speed, temperature, and volume.

Overall, the cabin layout is incredibly spacious, thanks to loads of freed up space from the rotary-style shifter. This opens up a ton of space in the armrest, which can be slid to different positions. Within the armrest, Ram managed to include a cleverly-designed wireless charger and phone holder, which are styled to allow for wired charging and easy access to the driver and passenger. If your phone doesn’t have wireless charging, the Ram boasts four USB ports in the front and back (two standard and two USB-C) as well as a 115-volt outlet in the back seat.

You want opulence? The first row is roomy enough, but the back row is fit for royalty. Not only are the front seats heated and ventilated on the Limited trim to go with the heated steering wheel and heated rear seats, adding the Level 1 equipment group gives ventilation to the second-row seats as well.

With the split side mirrors and large rear window, visibility is all-around excellent. This is a big and bright greenhouse, and the power panoramic sunroof is a huge and gorgeous option.  The Crew Cab is four inches longer, which means there’s more legroom. Another feature of the new cab layout is that the rear floor is flat, providing welcome foot room to the middle-rear passenger.

There are also various storage areas in the doors, on the sides of the center console, above the glove box, on top of the dashboard, and under the rear seats just to name a few. Around back, this Crew Cab model features a five-foot-seven-inch bed and the lightweight tailgate can be lowered from the key fob or a button in the cabin.

All of the Ram’s luxury is maintained as soon as you twist the gear selector into the drive position. Modern trucks have become remarkably car-like but this borders on a new level of drivability. Even when the roads get bumpy, the Ram’s air suspension soaks up imperfections in the pavement like a pillow. The Ram sits a class above its competitors in terms of ride comfort.

As you’d expect, the Ram is no slouch when you want to get a move on. The 5.7-liter V8 accelerates with gusto, rarely needing to open up to a deafening roar for simple passing maneuvers while the eight-speed transmission shifts smoothly and quietly in the background, never alerting you to its presence. 0-60 mph, if you care, is around 6.1 seconds.

BEST-IN-CLASS V8 TOWING DELIVERS COMPLETE CONFIDENCE: A full-size truck means full-size towing capability—but only the All-New Ram 1500 delivers Best-in-Class V8 towing with the 5.7L HEMI® V8. This Limited includes a 3.92 axle ratio and trailer-tow mirrors.

ALL-NEW KEY FOB: features include door locks, tailgate release, Air Suspension and remote start that can be controlled using the key fob.

PARK ASSIST: Sophisticated sensors give the All-New Ram 1500 superb capability. New for 2019: the invaluable Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist systems, making parking manoeuvres on the street and in parking lots easier than ever. Just engage the system, and enjoy hands-off parking.

SAFETY:  Accompanying the Ram’s redesigned frame and body are a number of active safety features aimed at preventing, or limiting the effects of, a collision. Opting for the Limited trim nets buyers standard safety kit such as a blind-spot monitor, a rear cross-traffic alert system, and front and rear parking sensors. Opting Level 1 Equipment group – an option on this truck – brings additional active safety equipment such as adaptive cruise control, automatic front braking, a lane-departure warning system, lane-keep assist, and surround-view monitor that offers a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings. The package also nets a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, ventilated rear-outboard seats, and a self-parking system that’s capable of nestling the truck into parallel or perpendicular parking spots.

This package is worth every penny, if only for the near-telepathic responses of the adaptive cruise control (I never once experienced any noticeable jerking or confusion from the system) and the convenience of the lane-departure warning system (at 82.1 inches wide, the Ram 1500 can easily find one or more of its tires invading the adjacent lane).

The Ram 1500 was already a very good truck. But the 2019 version? This is a great truck.
