My Lord, what a truly luxurious vehicle this is. For one thing, the ride is simply incredible for something that still has a live axle out back – the Longhorn rides like a Lexus and handles like a Porsche. OK, I exaggerate, but it is mighty impressive nonetheless.
Then, there’s the Laramie Longhorn’s interior. I could go through the various visual — such as the humongous, 12-inch vertically-oriented, Tesla-like touch screen — or aural — the Harman Kardon sound system — but mere listing doesn’t capture the sheer hedonism of this Ram’s interior. Now, to those raised on BMW or Mercedes Spartanism, the Ram’s cabin will be a little bit of a shock, what with Longhorn badges that look like outsized countrified belt buckles and, map pocket clasps that are outsized countrified belt buckles and trim that looks, for all the world, like the reclaimed wood that is all the rage these days. The cabin is Lexus-like silent thanks to Ram’s noise cancellation system and liberal use of acoustic glass. Indeed, the decor may be different but I can assure you the extravagance was equal to anything this side of a Bentley. Everyone who climbed aboard the big Ram — aided, of course, by automatically retractable side steps — was impressed, nay astonished, by the Longhorn’s incredible interior.
The Ram is also one of the (still) best-selling vehicles in the country, and for 2019 it’s got some radical changes, all of which augment its already-ferocious countenance and performance. It’s more comfortable, for one, as well as lighter, and they’ve done away with the traditional Ram/Dodge cross-hatch grille. It’s got an all-new body and frame, more interior room, a new rear axle for more efficient towing, a bigger and a more luxurious cockpit.
One can pooh-pooh the concept of a luxury pickup all you like but this new Ram 1500 is certainly a convincing argument for the breed. Indeed, if one were to judge vehicles by their ability to exceed expectations, then the Laramie Longhorn is easily the truck — hell, the car — of the year. It really is that impressive a feat.
THE MOST SPEAKERS IN THE SEGMENT: Only harman/kardon® could do it—and the All-New 2019 Ram 1500 offers it: a custom-tuned system with 19 premium speakers including a premium 10-inch subwoofer. The harman/kardon audio system also features Active Noise Cancellation, to minimize unwanted noise, for a superb audio experience when music is played. It’s all powered by a 900-watt multi-channel Class-D amplifier made even sweeter with 360º surround-sound.
