The 2018 Genesis G80 dares to tread on long-established premium-luxury sedans, matching them in every aspect except the exorbitant price. As a luxury sedan, the G80 checks all the right boxes. Along with its twin-turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive, the Genesis G80 luxury performance sedan for 2018 offers one of the longest standard warranties of any luxury brand.
For 2018, the new Sport trim joins the G80 lineup and features a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, sport-tuned 8-speed transmission and an adaptive sport suspension. All G80s receive revised styling inside and out and a new analog fuel gauge. New standard safety features include Pedestrian Detection and Driver Attention Alert.
The 2018 Genesis G80 Sport has best-in-class legroom and headroom, and the most interior room in the segment.
If you’re more impressed by bang for the buck than the logo on your key fob, the 2018 Genesis G80 may be the perfect luxury sedan for you. Powerful, handsome and loaded with safety and comfort features, it undercuts pricier traditional luxury cars by thousands of dollars. As a luxury sedan, the Genesis G80 excels. It’s comfortable, packed with plush leather and real wood.
GENESIS added the dynamism of a sports vehicle to the comfort of a premium sedan. The luxurious orchestration of exclusive sport seats, a 3-spoke steering wheel, real carbon and real aluminum details are hallmarks of the GENESIS G80 SPORT.
GENESIS G80 SPORT’s exclusive 3.3 Turbo GDi engine boasts a maximum power of 370hp and its twin-turbo system renders powerful acceleration at all speeds, yet the ride is so comfortable that the G80 SPORT is also perfect as a family car or for daily use.
Fit and finish is impressive throughout. Real wood trim—and real carbon fiber, on the G80 Sport—and touches of aluminum with the new electronic shift lever looks fantastic. The dash and doors have plenty of handsome leather.
Beyond the cabin quality, the G80 is supremely quiet. Engine noises are muted—very muted in the Sport’s case—and road, wind, and tire noise are similarly quelled. Combine that with an impressive Lexicon stereo and it’s easy to relax and pound out the miles in any G80.
The 3.3-liter’s outright performance is impressive. With peak torque spread from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm, the G80 Sport is always willing to get up and go. The throttle response is impressive.
Our Opinion (AutoWeek): They’re doing it — Hyundai is making a run at the champs with the Genesis brand, and this G80 Sport sedan should put the established players on notice. It’s smooth, it’s handsome and it’s powerful.
Lastly, the 2018 Genesis G80 comes well-equipped with nearly every modern safety system on the market. From more convenience oriented features like adaptive cruise control to pure safety items like auto emergency braking to the new pedestrian detection system that protects, well, pedestrians, the G80 is wholly deserving of its perfect 10 out of 10 on the safety ranking. The IIHS and NHTSA gives the G80 a Top Safety Pick+ award and a five-star rating across the board. That’s as good as it gets.
If one is looking for a luxury sport sedan, this G80 must be test-driven. Screw whatever badge loyalty you may or may not have.
