Introduced last year, the 2016 Ram 1500 Rebel is an off-road-ready beast with an intimidating presence on the road. The 2016 Ram 1500 Rebel is “Subtle, Like a Frying Pan to the Face”.
This Rebel is equipped with Ram’s trick air suspension, which levels out the truck when burdened with a heavy payload or lowers the truck for better fuel efficiency at highway speeds. My favourite part? Punch the suspension button (and you had better punch it, for this is not a truck in which to “touch” or “depress” buttons) and the whole party gets jacked up like Charlie Sheen on a bender, affording additional off-road clearance and making its stance even more aggro.
A nice, compliant ride character and Hemi V-8 thrust wouldn’t be very enjoyable in a subpar interior. Luckily, the Rebel doesn’t disappoint. The 1500’s overall design has been around for a while now, but its intuitive layout, materials and build quality are still among the top of the pickup-truck heap. That smooth ride remains one of the Ram’s most distinctive traits, and it comes courtesy of the class-exclusive coil-spring rear suspension, which is better at smoothing out and reducing the harshness of rough road surfaces than the typical leaf-spring setup.
